Taking Your Cloud Chasing to a Whole New Level

Experienced vapers often excite at the idea of blowing bigger clouds, so much so that cloud chasing has become a sport. With safety in mind, we’ve some handy tips to make you the next biggest cloud chaser.

The inhale/exhale required for cloud chasing is different. You must perfect a large enough inhale to produce a big cloud, and the speed of the exhale must be slow. If your exhale is too fast, you’ll get a thin cloud. Just remember the slower, the thicker. One technique for creating a large cloud on the exhale involves moving backward at the same time, this is known as rip tripping.

An RDA or rebuildable drip atomizer allows you to control the drip of the e-liquid onto the coils. This isn’t helpful for everyday use, but if you’re trying to get a larger cloud, this allows you to drip before every few puffs. You must also be familiar with sub ohming. Your atomizer must, therefore be firing at under 1 ohm of resistance.

Depending on the airflow, it can either affect your MOD or your cloud. If there is too much air escaping, then your clouds will be thin. However, if not enough air is escaping, it might damage your MOD. You definitely want thick clouds, but you don’t want your MOD to get damaged. Testing limited airflow is something to experiment with as a cloud chaser, but also to beware of.

Another potential danger to your MOD is overheating the battery. If you use your battery incorrectly or leave it charging too long, the battery can overheat and your MOD can catch on fire or explode. Make sure you are using the right brand of charger, or the one that came with your MOD and make sure to attend to the battery while it is charging. This way it will never get overcharged.

VG Chasing

Another thing to think about is the e-liquid. It should have a higher blend of VG. For thick clouds, your e-liquid should be about a 70/30 blend with VG being the greater unit and PG or being the lesser. This produces great clouds, is easy on the throat, and tastes better. You can also use pure VG, which is what professional cloud chasers tend to use.

The Wick and Coil

Wicking is another important part of cloud chasing. If you treat your wick properly you will get the most use out of your e-liquid. To do this, cut both ends of the wick. Fluff the ends up, and then tuck them under the coil, leaving room for air beneath the wick as you push it to one side. The most important part of cloud chasing is how your coils are built. Use a dual coil for maximum cloud production.

As you can see, cloud chasing is definitely only for the most experienced vaper. Misuse of the battery or airflow could lead to the explosion of your MOD potentially causing harm to you or those around you. Taking all this into consideration, enjoy! Cloud chasing can be thoroughly entertaining and exciting.

MOD Power or Airflow – Which Do You Prefer?

Typically, people that start using MODs do so because, having had the basic e-cigarette and/or vape pen experience, they’re ready to get to that next level. They want increased wattage and voltage, bigger hits, and larger vapor clouds. Essentially, a MOD is a bigger and more powerful device that’s often customized according to personal preference. Additionally to being extra powerful, MODs tend to allow for a bigger air intake in order to create more vapor without overheating. However, having more power and airflow can make it harder to find a perfect balance between the two. When an argument over MOD using begins, the central questions tends to be the same: Power or Airflow?

First of all it’s important to keep in mind that more power means more heat, while more airflow means more vapor. There needs to be an equilibrium between the two in order to get the amount of warmth, flavor and thickness that you prefer. The relation between temperature and the amount of air getting to the coils will determine not only these factors, but also the size and density of the resulting cloud. Some vape enthusiasts may find that warm and concentrated vapor hits the spot, while others may prefer cooler hits that produce bigger clouds. There’s no right or wrong, it’s simply a matter of personal choice.

Admittedly, though, that sweet spot is not always easy to find. Every MOD is different, provided with its own particular capabilities and unique build-up. Size is a preponderant factor, but it’s not the only one. The special characteristics and capacities of each MOD translate to a wide range of variables. The size of the battery is important, but the amount of power that is produced by it becomes meaningless without a suiting airflow allowance. The same works the other way around: It doesn’t matter how much air goes in the MOD if there isn’t enough power to heat it up.

Learning how to control these characteristics becomes a new task with each different, uniquely built vape MOD. A good example of a variable that’ll affect the settings is whether the MOD is adjusted by voltage (amount of electricity) or wattage (amount of work performed by electricity). Another important factor that comes into play when vaping is the e-liquid: Each product has a different composition which affects the process in its own manner.

Technical aspects aside, however, what ultimately defines the perfect balance between power and airflow are the personal preferences of the user. Take their drag technique for example: Whether someone likes mouth-to-lung hits or straight-lung hits will definitely have a huge impact on their preferred settings. More power is usually regarded as better for mouth-to-lung hits that are warmer and extra flavorful. In turn, more airflow tends to appeal more to those interested in cool lung hits packed with lots of vapor. For some people making huge clouds is a huge part of the appeal of vaping, and that comes with its own set of techniques and level-adjustments. There are even some that keep the vapor in their mouths without inhaling because they’re mainly interested in flavor and dislike any kind of harshness or strain.

As with many things in life, finding the perfect settings for your MOD is a matter of experimentation and adjustment. Power and airflow are both vital for correct functionality, but whether you favor one or the other depends on what you are trying to get. Understanding your MOD is essential, and after that it’s all a matter of slowly adjusting the settings until it simply feels right for you.

Finding The Right Throat Hit

To find just the right throat hit from your vaping device, be it an e-cigarette or MOD for instances, there are a few factors to consider that wouldn’t ordinarily cross the mind of those that’re brand new to vaping and the products that’re available.

  • E-Liquid flavor
  • PG/VG Ratio
  • Type of Device and Strength of Atomizer/Battery

E-liquid Flavor
Keep in mind that this is a critical decision when selecting an e-liquid flavor that is tolerable to your palette and nose.
When mixing custom e-liquids in lieu of choosing favored pre-fabricated blends, keep in mind these “ideal flavors” will taste when inhaled as they would if they were left to burn on a barbecue, so flavors like Cherry and Peach, which sounds delightful, will taste like burnt Cherries and Peaches (very gross!), so think more on the camp of blending tobacco and fruits or desserts, or menthol blended with fruit or desserts for the most tolerable tastes.

PG/VG Ratio
This has a simplistic yet gradual equation
Nevermind what they stand for but the higher the PG percentage next to the VG percentage (ie. 70%/30%) the stronger the throat hit will be, the closer to 50%/50% the higher the vapor output will be and the lesser the throat hit will be. So for stronger throat hit on any e-liquid blend, choose the higher PG value.
Type of Device and the output strength in wattage of the battery and atomizers inserted
Vaporizers are a finicky creature
Most vapes are gonna give you a lot of throat hit which is not dependent on the e-liquid, PG value, or battery/atomizer output, basically the size of the vaporizer at the base is bigger for a higher wattage output and this higher wattage output charges and heats the cotton coil atomizer inserted at the neck of the device to heat up the e-liquid and create vapor, the faster it heats the more vapor that will pour out from the device at once, creating a larger vapor cloud upon exhale.

We should now be able to discern that if you prefer a strong throat hit over more vapor clouds, go with a smaller device, include tobacco and/or menthol flavors in your e-liquid, and ask your vape tender to give you the highest PG value possible, or more so pretty much to your own personal taste, have fun vaping, it’s definitely a worthwhile experience!

Disposables or Starter Kits – Which Do You Enter The World of Vaping First?

Starting out vaping can be overwhelming with the multitude of choices available. The options range from disposable e-cigs all the way up to building your own atomizer tanks and coils, and this can make it difficult to decide which one to start with. Many people tend to start with disposable e-cigs since they’re readily available at most gas stations. In doing so, they lose out on truly experiencing vaping to its fullest. The best purchase to start with is a starter kit, both for long term cost effectiveness and variety.

Disposables can typically be purchased individually and in packs ranging from two to six disposable e-cigs, and is everything you need to start. The average price for a decent disposable is $8 each, and they are advertised as the equivalent of two packs of cigarettes. They’re typically single use and many are designed to look and feel similar to a cigarette. While this look may be appealing for those that are switching from cigarettes to vaping, disposables don’t provide a large variety of flavors or nicotine levels. The average disposable offers only a few flavors, averaging between three to six choices, and very little customization on nicotine levels. The nicotine level isn’t adjustable, and in many cases the manufacturers only offer one level of nicotine for their disposables. Finally, once you use up the battery it goes in the trash, adding to the waste we already have from our typical daily lives.

Starter kits come with one to two tanks, a battery, and a charger. This is almost everything you need to start off, and sometimes you can even find one that will provide you with a small bottle of e-liquid that’s sometimes at a discount or included in the kit price. The average starter kit on the low-end is around $20, but the best part of the starter kit is its re-usability. Everything that comes in the kit can be used over and over, and very little waste is created from them. Also, after the initial purchase the only item you need to buy is the vape liquids and occasionally additional tanks. As the tank is refillable you also open up your flavor and nicotine level choices. Many vape liquid suppliers offer hundreds of customized flavor and nicotine level choices, so your options are seemingly endless.

Start kits are simply the best way to begin vaping. They give you longevity, variety, and are a significantly lower impact on the environment. While the initial cost is typically higher than a disposable, the long term cost is significantly lower and the experience will most definitely be more enjoyable with a starter kit.

Coil Building 101

There are various reasons why vapers decide to build their own coils. You could be looking to begin using a Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA) in order to experience explosions of flavor and clouds that most vapers rave about. Dealing with stock coils that have a poor quality control and are expensive to buy could be another reason. Coil building is cheaper and they perform way better than those of your mates. No matter the reason you have for making the coils, the exercise is always fun, exciting and will improve your vaping experience in total. Below is a guide on how to make the coils easily.

What Do You Need? As a beginner, you should go for an RDA that is beginner-friendly to avoid unnecessary frustration. Ensure that it has adequate space to place your coils and has some quality screws too. You will also require some wire; the most commonly used is the Kanthal wire (26 or 28 gauge). Next you’ll need some wicking material. The most preferred is the organic Japanese cotton sheets like the Shiseido, Muji and Koh Gen Do. You should ensure that the cotton is unbleached and organic as most of those found in shops are bleached. Bleached cotton can be boiled to sanitize it but buying unbleached makes the work easier. You’ll also need tools like micro screwdrivers, scissors, an ohm meter, and wire clippers.

Making the Coils: If you were for example to use a 26 gauge Kanthal wire, 2 mm screwdriver to achieve a .6 ohm in your atomizer then below are the steps to follow. You’ll need 6 wraps of your wire. Ensure you hold it firmly and make sure the wraps are as close to each other as possible. Once through with the 6 wraps, place the two loose ends into the atomizer’s post holes and make sure you connect the positive to the negative to ensure a complete circuit. Tighten the screws carefully and then test whether it is heating inside out perfectly by strumming across the coils using your screwdriver. Once this is complete, you can then proceed to wick it and start enjoying. The cotton strip used ought to be almost equal to the coil’s diameter.

As you build the coil you’ll learn more. You can start with the single coil before moving to the dual coils that produce more vapor. Trial and error will help you get your most preferred vaping experience. It’ll in turn save you a couple of bucks in the end.

Setting New Year’s Vaping Resolutions

It’s that time of year again, time to make New Year’s resolutions. As a vaper, you have many choices for vaping-related resolutions. Here are a few to get your creative juices flowing.

New Year’s Vaping Resolution #1: Purchase Only High-Quality E-Liquids
High-quality e-liquids are made of pharmaceutical-grade nicotine and are developed in a clean and sterile environment. Do your research before buying e-juice that’s advertised as “high-quality.” Ask staff questions, especially about what ingredients are in the e-liquid. Many e-liquid sellers advertise their product as “high-quality,” but they turn out to have unhealthy or dangerous chemicals.
New Year’s Vaping Resolution #2: Lose Possible Weight with Vaping
Nicotine suppresses hunger (to an extent as it can vary), so next time you want to pick up a snack, go for the vaporizer instead. You can choose from many different flavors that would mean not missing out on any of the deliciousness of high-caloric food such as cheesecake. You might find yourself starting to lose a bit of weight simply by replacing the fatty, calorie-filled snacks with a good vaping session.
New Year’s Vaping Resolution #3: Convince Other Smokers to Vape
Some people may be scared, others confused. What’s dripping, they’re thinking. What flavor should I pick? There are tons of flavors and qualities of e-liquids to choose from, so it’s no wonder that people are confused or frightened off. Spend some time talking to your friends about the questions they might have and tell them about your favorite flavors. And most importantly, share with them what vaping overall has done for you since you made the switch.
New Year’s Vaping Resolution #4: Join the Fight for the Right to Vape
Our government has yet to decide what category to put vaping in. However, some places across the country have banned vaping from their city. Restaurants and stores are beginning to prohibit it, as well as colleges and universities. Fight for your right to vape where you want by writing your legislature or city council.
New Year’s Vaping Resolution #5: Lower Your Nicotine Levels
E-liquids come in many different levels of nicotine. Make it your New Year’s resolution to lower the nicotine content of your e-liquid. If you’re already at the lowest nicotine level possible, keep in mind that there are also nicotine-free e-liquids, so you can get the experience without the chemical. It’s most likely that you’ll never even notice the lowered or cut-out nicotine level!

There are many other resolutions you can make related to vaping. You could resolve to try a new flavor every month to broaden your taste buds, or you could resolve to stick to the same, high-quality e-liquid you love most so you don’t have to keep looking for new stores to visit. Whatever your resolutions are, make sure you include one or two resolutions that are fun or exciting. This will make it easier to deal with the others.

Different Types of Throat Hits

When it comes to vaping, people tend to be pretty particular about their e-juice and the throat hit that they get while vaping. Those who’ve recently quit smoking may tend to want more of a throat hit than those who just want to vape for flavor and not for quitting cigarettes. Menthol smokers may want a menthol throat hit, and non-menthol smokers may want more of a tobacco flavor and throat hit.

At first, when individuals quit smoking cigarettes, they may want to get as close as possible to what they had in the cigarettes they smoked and flavor may be unimportant at this beginning level of vaping. Soon, they find themselves starting to like flavors that have menthol in them. It’s important to keep in mind that you don’t have to settle, you can simply mix a menthol or tobacco flavor with something that you really enjoy in order to enjoy the flavor and also get the throat hit. People who’ve quit smoking in the past and are trying not to go back to it may start vaping; these individuals may want a stronger throat hit or they may want a milder throat hit.

Some individuals, particularly those who just vape for flavor without nicotine, don’t like strong throat hits at all. They prefer a very mild to no throat hit and just want to have full flavor. People typically need to find a balance and experiment to figure out what is right for them. Play around with your e-liquids to find your perfect balance between throat hit and flavor especially if you are a previous smoker. Vaping is a better alternative to smoking, and for whatever type of throat hit you’re looking for there is a setup and juice for you.

Vaping Becoming A Part of Thanksgiving

Vaping has become on of the easiest and most pleasurable ways to replace those after dinner cigarettes which have been replaced by the far healthier option of vaping. There’s something soothing and appealing about having something to cleanse the palate and relax at the same time.

Thanksgiving is perhaps one of the top days of the year where people indulge in massive feasts that’re full of great foods of all kinds. Though many opt for traditional fare, Thanksgiving meals can regional or even cultural. Regardless, all have one thing in common and that is they are big and satisfying.

One issue with those who used to smoke was that they’d have to miss out on family time, conversation, or even football to go outside to smoke. But vaping has changed all of that. It’s a way to enjoy that great feeling that comes when one inhales a great tasting e-liquid from us and gets the satisfaction of blowing out that puff of great smelling vapor. It’s a way to replace cigarettes that have caused many to make the switch, as vaping has so many options and flavors it truly is suited for everyone.

This year, those who vape can do so and not miss one moment of Thanksgiving with their friends and family. They can simply vape away. Vaping itself is truly something to be thankful for this upcoming Thanksgiving.

Avoiding E-Liquid Mishaps

eliquid mishap

Picking up a vaporizer and getting e-liquid all over your hands is a very unpleasant experience for anyone.

One way to avoid leakage is to always have the device standing upright. Do not lay the vaporizer on its side when not in use and try to avoid having it on its side or upside down in pockets, purses, or backpacks. Another mistake that people tend to make is overfilling the tank with e-liquid or over-saturating the wick in the atomizer. If the wick in the atomizer is too damp, it could have the tendency to shoot liquid out of the tip and into the user’s mouth when heated the same way olive oil in a hot frying pan would do.

The best way to avoid these issues is to use less liquid and bring on more e-juice only when needed later on. Another common factor of leakage is that the tank, atomizer, or other parts of the device aren’t on tight enough. Always make sure that everything is screwed on and secured snugly to avoid leakage. Another common issue can also be an e-liquid leak if the O-ring on a tank is damaged or broken, causing the airtight seal around the tank to fail. O-rings are easy to replace and can be found either online or at a local vape shop. Instructional videos can be found on the internet when it comes to locating and replacing O-rings.

There are times when vaporizer leakage occurs is because of poor manufacturing of the product. Not all devices and there parts are made the same way, so if you can’t identify the cause of leaking, it’d be wise to do a product review online and see if there are similar complaints from other customers. If the manufacturer has too many complaints, then it might be time to consider looking for a different device or part produced by a better company.

Overall, research and knowledge are the keys to avoiding or dealing with e-liquid mishaps.

3 Common Mistakes of First-Time Vaping Users

Vaping Mistakes

It may surprise you to know, but you can misuse your electronic cigarette. Today, we’re going to quickly cover these 3 simple mistakes by both new and experienced users alike.

The first and most common mistake (hold on to your hats kids, you have heard this one before) is just that users simply don’t read the provided instructions particular to their device model. Every manufacturer either includes a hard copy of instructions or directs customers to a website with important directions for usage and safety warnings. It’s imperative that any level vaping user with a new product take heed to the manufacturer instruction. Note: It would be beyond the scope of this article to address each and every brand and their differences! Keeping your unit clean and operable. A common mistake of new vaping users is simply not keeping their device free from dust and pocket lint. There’s not a lot of instruction required to mitigate this problem; it can be as simple as having a case for your device. Check the instructions relevant to the device you own for proper cleaning methods.

Probably the most bothersome misuse of an electronic cigarette, vaporizer, or even a MOD is the delivery as it relates to potency. Traditional cigarettes regulated potency via two methods, on the manufacturing end by differing processes when making cigarettes, Lights VS. Full-flavor for instance. And on the customer end users self-regulated by how “strong of a draw” a user “pulled” from their cigarette.

With electronic cigarettes, one also regulates potency via two methods, the different e-liquids they use and the amount of voltage their device has. Increase the voltage and you increase the potency. Admittedly, this is an oversimplified explanation but it avoids a long and technical diatribe that boils down to the same thing; Greater voltage = increased potency. Taking time to properly select the e-liquid that suits both a user’s taste and potency needs, is time well invested as it pays off in a more pleasurable and satisfying vaping experience. This also applies to learning how to regulate the voltage of your unit, as not all units have a user adjustable voltage regulator but instead are set to a default. This leads to the infinite loop of e-cigarette under-delivery. If the potency of your liquid is too low for your needs you’re more likely to overdraw on the device and cause overheating, this in turn wears out the battery (and heating element), as the charge dissipates from use, so does the voltage, causing a user to take longer and more frequent draws in a never ending quest for the correct potency.

Well, there you have it. These common mistakes can happen to any level vaping user, but it’s all about how you can fix the mistake and avoid it from occurring again.
