Typically, people that start using MODs do so because, having had the basic e-cigarette and/or vape pen experience, they’re ready to get to that next level. They want increased wattage and voltage, bigger hits, and larger vapor clouds. Essentially, a MOD is a bigger and more powerful device that’s often customized according to personal preference. Additionally to being extra powerful, MODs tend to allow for a bigger air intake in order to create more vapor without overheating. However, having more power and airflow can make it harder to find a perfect balance between the two. When an argument over MOD using begins, the central questions tends to be the same: Power or Airflow?
First of all it’s important to keep in mind that more power means more heat, while more airflow means more vapor. There needs to be an equilibrium between the two in order to get the amount of warmth, flavor and thickness that you prefer. The relation between temperature and the amount of air getting to the coils will determine not only these factors, but also the size and density of the resulting cloud. Some vape enthusiasts may find that warm and concentrated vapor hits the spot, while others may prefer cooler hits that produce bigger clouds. There’s no right or wrong, it’s simply a matter of personal choice.
Admittedly, though, that sweet spot is not always easy to find. Every MOD is different, provided with its own particular capabilities and unique build-up. Size is a preponderant factor, but it’s not the only one. The special characteristics and capacities of each MOD translate to a wide range of variables. The size of the battery is important, but the amount of power that is produced by it becomes meaningless without a suiting airflow allowance. The same works the other way around: It doesn’t matter how much air goes in the MOD if there isn’t enough power to heat it up.
Learning how to control these characteristics becomes a new task with each different, uniquely built vape MOD. A good example of a variable that’ll affect the settings is whether the MOD is adjusted by voltage (amount of electricity) or wattage (amount of work performed by electricity). Another important factor that comes into play when vaping is the e-liquid: Each product has a different composition which affects the process in its own manner.
Technical aspects aside, however, what ultimately defines the perfect balance between power and airflow are the personal preferences of the user. Take their drag technique for example: Whether someone likes mouth-to-lung hits or straight-lung hits will definitely have a huge impact on their preferred settings. More power is usually regarded as better for mouth-to-lung hits that are warmer and extra flavorful. In turn, more airflow tends to appeal more to those interested in cool lung hits packed with lots of vapor. For some people making huge clouds is a huge part of the appeal of vaping, and that comes with its own set of techniques and level-adjustments. There are even some that keep the vapor in their mouths without inhaling because they’re mainly interested in flavor and dislike any kind of harshness or strain.
As with many things in life, finding the perfect settings for your MOD is a matter of experimentation and adjustment. Power and airflow are both vital for correct functionality, but whether you favor one or the other depends on what you are trying to get. Understanding your MOD is essential, and after that it’s all a matter of slowly adjusting the settings until it simply feels right for you.
